The Average Australian’s Weekly Wage Rises

The weekly wage for the average full time Australian worker is $1200 according to new data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics which was released on Thursday.

The average weekly ordinary time earnings (AWOTE) for a full time Australian worker increased by 0.9 per cent during the quarter ending August, representing an annual seasonally adjusted increase of 5.2 per cent.

Private sector AWOTE increased by 0.9 per cent to stand at $1178.80 and represents a seasonally adjusted annual increase of 4.9 per cent.

How To Avoid Looking Cheap

I need to buy new sneakers today. I know this because when I took my dog for a walk this morning, the plastic heel guard in my right sneaker tore through the fabric cover and scratched my heel. More specifically, the abrasion continued for the full mile that I walked so that I was bleeding when I arrived home. The sneakers, which I have worn daily for three years, have been in bad shape for quite a while, but they still served their purpose so I kept wearing them. Now they are in the trash.

By comparison, if the shoes that I wear to work start to look worn, I replace them even if they could still be worn for several years without causing discomfort.

AMP Chief Says Government Should Increase Mandatory Superannuation Contributions

Craig Dunn, chief executive of Australian wealth management company AMP has raised the temperature of its bid to acquire AXA Asia Pacific Holdings (APH), by saying the market likes the prospect of a deal and wants the target to continue negotiations for a transaction.

AMP also said it would increase the value of superannuation contributions made by the company on behalf of its staff.

AMP says it intends to increase superannuation contributions from the current mandatory 9 per cent, to 12 per cent over the next half decade.

Speaking at a business conference, Mr. Dunn said that AMP thought that there was reason for Australia to start looking at a broader increase for all Australian workers.

72% of U.S. Adults Fear Online Identity Theft

A recent ABC News / Washington Post poll found that seven in 10 adults are worried about falling victim to online identity theft.

While technology and the internet provide convenience, most people feel that convenience comes with a price – namely, privacy and security. Here are some of the poll’s findings:

57% of American adults feel that the internet greatly diminishes personal privacy (up from 42% in 2005 and 38% in 2000).

72% worry that their personal information could be stolen online.

84% think businesses should do more to protect customers’ private information.

As consumers hear more and more reports about data breaches in which fraudsters gain unauthorized access to their information, privacy fears swell.
