Democrats Fight to Save 30-Year-Mortgages

Critics say a new law introduced by Republican U.S. Rep. Jeb Hensarling, designed to advance the rate at which the portfolios for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are sold off, would severely limit the number of 30-year fixed-rate mortgages available in the U.S., according to a report from MartketWatch. Experts recently testified before Congress that returning Fannie and Freddie to the private sector would lead to a price increase most middle class families couldn’t begin to afford.

Will Spray Nicotine Be the Next Quit-Smoking Fad?

Move over, e-cigarette: Here comes the new not-really-smoking thingamajig. We’d give you a name for it, but it’s not quite ready yet. Tobacco giant Philip Morris International (PM) has just laid claim to the new technology, which delivers nicotine in aerosol form. The spray will provide a nicotine “hit” faster than current alternatives, its inventor, Jed Rose, director of Duke University’s Center for Nicotine and Smoking Cessation Research, told the Associated Press. European nations shut out Spanish vegetables due to E. coli concerns

Asked which countries had stopped buying Spanish produce, FEPEX president Jorge Brotons told a news conference: “Almost all Europe. There is a domino effect on all vegetables and fruits. A psychosis has been created.”
German authorities said they detected the potentially dangerous bacteria on organic cucumbers imported from two producers in southern Spain’s Andalucia region.
“Orders are plunging daily,” Brotons said.
