Earlier this week, I stumbled upon a great interview with Francis Ford Coppola over at the 99 percent. In this interview, Coppola talks about the past and future of people making money from their art, whether it be music, movies, or other things:

We have to be very clever about those things. You have to remember that it’s only a few hundred years, if that much, that artists are working with money. Artists never got money. Artists had a patron, either the leader of the state or the duke of Weimar or somewhere, or the church, the pope. Or they had another job. I have another job. I make films. No one tells me what to do. But I make the money in the wine industry. Y

Planning Summer Travel

This seems rather strange, perhaps, but Sarah and I have our summer plans more or less penciled in through 2015.

That’s right, 2015

This summer, we’re going to Seattle. The following summer is a trip to New Orleans with my family. The summer after that will feature a trip to Boston, with the summer after that featuring some extensive national park camping. The summer after that? Disneyworld.

We’ve even started talking about subsequent vacations, including trips to Norway, Japan, and France by the end of the decade (we want our children to be older before traveling internationally).

Many of these tax mistakes are easily avoidable if you use Turbo Tax or H&R Block to prepare your taxes. I’ve personally used H&R Block for 12 years … this year will be my 13th. LinkedIn: A Small Player Tests the IPO Waters

The trading of LinkedIn shares on private exchanges puts its value at about $3 billion, well short of Groupon at $6 billion or Facebook at $50 billion. The reason is simple. The professional social network is a tiny company.

The S1 that LinkedIn filed with the SEC on Thursday as one of the steps to an initial public offering describes a company that is growing but only has modest revenue.
